Amazing is an understatement. When I was at Huntington Hospital, the lactation consultant was out for the weekend and I wasn’t able to speak with the lactation consultant. As a first time mom and wanting to exclusively feed breast milk, I became very concerned. My baby wasn’t latching and the pediatrician suggested I give him formula because “my nipples were too flat and my baby was hungry”. I freaked out, called the hospital and someone recommended Maria. I am so glad she did. Maria is so professional, organized, compassionate and I can tell she LOVES what she does every day. She explained techniques that helped my baby latch from day 1! And no nipple is defective, it’s a matter of filling in a gap of knowledge. From Maria’s portal, to the folder of information and a summary of your visit for you and your pediatrician, to all the great tips and advice, she blew me away. Thanks to her my baby gained 8oz in a week and I am producing 9-10oz of breast milk just from pumping in the morning, imagine how much he is eating directly from the breast.

I took it further and recommended her to my pediatricians office because THEY NEED TO SHARE HER INFO WITH MOTHERS LIKE ME who find themselves needing help. Even if it’s a refresher or to learn more about lactation, speaking to Maria gave me a sense of relief. On top of all this, she accommodated me immediately when she heard how concerned I was. Her home office is so clean and cozy. I felt so comfortable.

Baby girl didn’t latch right away and so I began exclusively pumping. For 8 weeks baby girl was fed breast milk with a bottle. It wasn’t until Maria came in to help that I was finally able to breastfeed. It was an emotionally and physically exhausting process requiring different approaches, but Maria was optimistic and confident we would figure it out. She was available to talk whenever I needed it and offer tips and advice. She was often just an ear to listen to my concerns. I had given up hope of being able to breastfeed baby girl, worrying I would be hooked up to a pump for the life of giving baby milk, but Maria helped to make it possible to do both."

I never knew how hard breastfeeding was going to be and I was ready to give up before I met Maria. Since we were still in the middle of a pandemic, I met with a lactation consultant virtually a few times before I met with Maria and nothing compares to an in-person consultation. It was great that her offices were nearby and she was able to make home visits especially since it's so hard to go anywhere with a new baby. We met for a total of 3 times and it was so easy to schedule with her. She was very professional and hygienic; she washed her hands the minute she arrived and mentioned that she always wears new clothes to each home consult. This was so important to a mom of a new baby who's afraid of outside germs. She really helped me on my breastfeeding journey and validated how everything I was experiencing was normal. I was so worried that the baby wasn't getting enough milk and it was so helpful to have Maria weigh the baby after each feeding to see how much milk he was getting. I remember one visit, we weighed the baby 4 times, because he would just keep snacking on my breasts and not eating for long periods of time. Maria made suggestions to help me with my low milk supply and I never felt judged for wanting to continue supplementing with formula. I'm so glad that I found Maria, she really helped me continue my breastfeeding journey with a sense of joy instead of dread."

Feeding your child in any way best for them is one of the many objectives as a parent. My son had such a hard time with a bottle and would constantly choke on milk. He had an even harder time nursing directly off the breast, leaving many sessions with us both frustrated and my nipples sore. When I was at my peak of hopelessness thinking I will need to accept that feeding my son will forever be a stressful ordeal, I called Maria for help and she came in person that very night. She suggested techniques and provided resources invaluable to a new mom. She was able to work her magic with my son such that he was finally able to properly latch and have a peaceful feeding session. More importantly, she checked up on us and provided extended assistance virtually to ensure my son and I were en route to success, whatever shape and form that meant for us. I cannot recommend Maria enough. Not only is she good at her work, but also she truly cares and that extra personal touch is what a new mama needed most when she thought all her options were spent and felt hopeless."
